Looking for a few ideas to upgrade your current bathroom design? We’ve got you covered! Keep reading for seven popular bathroom remodeling trends.

Walk-in Shower

Oversized walk-in showers have overtaken traditional shower designs and it’s easy to see why! Walk-in showers are not only beautiful, but there are many different ways to customize them. Choose between double shower heads, rain showers, and steam features - just to name a few! For the tech-savvy, there are even ways to integrate smart technology into your shower design.

Soaking Tub

The perfect complement to an oversized walk-in shower? A freestanding soaking tub. Nothing encourages relaxation like a nice, long soak after a busy day. Adding a freestanding soaking tub to your bathroom remodel helps to embody that coveted spa-like feel while also acting as an eye-catching and sophisticated design element.

Timeless Designs

Remodeling requires plenty of money, time, and effort so it goes without saying you want the design to stay in style for as long as possible. With that in mind, there’s no shame in playing it safe when it comes to remodeling your bathroom. When it comes to selecting more permanent elements of your bathroom like flooring and shower tile, opt for tried and true classics. Using neutral tones and minimalist shapes will ensure your bathroom stays on-trend. A trendy tile that’s here to stay? Subway tile! The best part is subway tiles come in a range of colors and finishes. What’s more, putting a spin on this classic is as easy as installing it in a fun pattern or using a contrasting grout color.

Statement Vanity

Who said your bathroom vanity has to be boring? There are plenty of ways to make a statement with your vanity. More and more manufacturers are offering vanities that look more like accent furniture than your typical vanity. With a range of interesting sink shapes and unique finishes, finding a vanity that adds visual appeal to your bathroom remodel is easier than ever. Plus, you can never go wrong with double sinks and plenty of storage, right?

All Black Bathrooms

Master suites are all about creating an at-home oasis to encourage relaxation. For most people, the first thing that comes to mind is a light, bright and airy design. While we love a classic bathroom design as much as the next person, we’re also big fans of mixing it up and this next trend does just that. We’re talking about all-black bathrooms! From the flooring and paint right down to the vanity and countertops, an all back bathroom is the bold and decadent bathroom design you never knew you needed.

Vertical Storage

When designing your ideal bathroom incorporating the right amount of storage is key, especially if you lack a linen closet. After all, there’s only so much storage space below the sink! One way to increase the storage space in your bathroom is to add vertical storage. A few options include adding open shelving to store everyday items or a ladder shelf to hold towels. Another option is to add upper cabinets to your vanity. In addition to creating more storage, upper cabinets can break up long vanities and add visual interest to a traditional bathroom design. Overall, the type of vertical storage you use depends primarily on the finished design you have in mind.

Eco-Friendly Elements

Sustainability in home design has become more commonplace in recent years. The market is flooded with new and innovative products, making it an easy trend to incorporate in your bathroom remodel. From low-flow toilets to high-efficiency showerheads, there are plenty of ways to go green with your bathroom remodel; just look for products with a WaterSense label. When you add energy-efficient elements to your design, you not only help the planet but can also save money over time. It’s a win-win!

5 Tips for Remodeling Your Kitchen

18592 Duluth Cir Farmington MN-large-001-16-002-1500x1000-72dpi.jpg

Remodeling your kitchen is a big investment, so you want to be sure you end up with a design your love. If you’re thinking of embarking on a kitchen remodel in the future, you’ll want to check out these five tips!

Don’t Get Too Trendy

As much as we love incorporating trends into design, doing so can be tricky. Trends have a tendency to come and go, after all! For that reason, sticking with tried and true favorites is the way to go. Selecting classic materials and colors for more permanent fixtures like tile, flooring, and cabinetry can save you money (and a headache) down the road.

A true classic? Subway tile! A timeless favorite, subway tile works with many different styles. From farmhouse chic to modern, it’s sure to stand up to the test of time. There are also little things you can do to put a new spin on this classic. Rather than installing it in the typical brick pattern, opt for something more interesting like a herringbone pattern. For a little drama and dimension, use a dark or contrasting grout.

We know what you’re thinking; “So I shouldn’t incorporate any trends into my kitchen remodel?” Of course you can! While you should always consider how much it would cost to remodel again if the design starts to look dated, it’s your kitchen. If you love it, go for it!

Take Stock of Your Cabinet Space

The key to creating a more functional kitchen is to optimize storage. To ensure you have enough space to store all your kitchen equipment, food, and other kitchenware you’ll need to take inventory. Do you have a bunch of small appliances you don’t want to keep on the counter all the time? Carving out space in your newly designed pantry can provide the perfect solution. Do you have a large spice collection? Utilize dead space by adding a pull out spice rack in the lower cabinets next to the fridge. Frequently buy in bulk or like to purchase family-sized items? Create storage for bulk items in the pantry or built-in bench seating.

Analyze Your Cleanup Methods

It’s safe to say no one really loves cleaning up with kitchen after cooking or baking, right? Sure, it may be the least fun part of the job but your clean up methods can actually impact the design of your kitchen remodel. How you clean can determine the amount of storage you need for dishes, glassware, and other kitchenware. In addition, it can help you decide which type of countertop material is right for your kitchen.

Do you have a lot of delicate, non-dishwasher safe dishes or just prefer to wash dishes by hand? You’ll need extra counter space to allow for air drying your dishes. Is your countertop is the recipient of frequent spills or home to caked on food? A quartz countertop might be the best bet for your kitchen, as it’s a more durable and nonporous alternative to granite.

Get Smart…Technology

These days, technology is just getting smarter and smarter. So smart, in fact, that many home builders are incorporating smart technology into the building process. The result? A truly integrated and more efficient home! Kitchen smart tech has become increasingly more innovative and centralized, so it’s a great place to start. From refrigerators to coffee makers, smart technology has the power to automate certain parts of your day. After all, what’s better than a streamlined morning routine to start your day off right?

Use Lighting to Create Separation

Who said lighting could only be functional? When it comes to the overall design of your kitchen, lighting can pack a big punch! The style and placement of chosen lighting has the power to not only complete your kitchen remodel, but to also tie the whole design together. Lighting can even be used to delineate spaces in your kitchen. For example, use pendant lighting above the island and a chandelier style above the dinette to highlight the different areas. Whether mixing and matching styles or opting for a more uniform look, your lighting should reflect the design you’re creating as well as your unique style.

Project Feature: Rosemount Minnesota Main Level Remodel

15580 Danbury Ave W Rosemount-large-003-9-013-1500x1000-72dpi.jpg

This past year, we worked with this wonderful Rosemount Minnesota family to remodel their entire main level kitchen, dining room, and family room.

In partnership with our friends at The Cabinet Store, we helped these clients achieve their goals of making the three different spaces feel cohesive and adding lots of organized storage.

Like many homes we renovate, this one’s dated 90’s style needed an update (think oak cabinets, laminate countertops, and vinyl floors). Every new finish feels fresh and contemporary, but still timeless.

The most significant structural change during this remodel was removing the wall separating the kitchen and dining room. Open and welcoming, the new main level is a host’s dream! From babysitting grandkids to big holiday gatherings - this house is party-ready!
